Terry Kinsey founded Mother Earth Adventures in 1991 as a result of his own experiential spiritual activities over the past 10 years, including; native sweat lodges, vision quests, wilderness canoe journeys, and 10-day Buddhist backpacking retreats. He is also active in a variety of youth group activities, assisting the young to connect more with the sacred.

While being heavily influenced by traditional native experiences, Terry also takes his "calling" to perform these ceremonies from his connection to Unitarian Universalism and its rich spiritual principles. These principles promote:

The inherent worth and dignity of each individual

Justice, equity, and compassion in human relations

Encouragement of each person to grow spiritually

A free and responsible search for truth and meaning

Respect for the interdependent web of all existence
