12" Single Cretan Finger Labyrinth This is the oldest (3000 years or
more), simplest and most widely used labyrinth pattern in the world. It is believed to
have its origins on the Isle of Crete. With its 7 interconnecting paths, this
pattern associates well with the 7 major Chakras for contemplative and healing purposes.
Being 12" round, and weighing about 2 lbs., this labyrinth fits into briefcases,
suitcases and is the perfect take along. It is also a tool for those who may lack strength
and mobility such as small children and nursing home residents. Has a notch for hanging and engraved suggestions for use on
the back
This pattern is the most popular design in North America and is based on the famous labyrinth that was inlaid into the floor of Chartres Cathedral in France in the 13th Century. Many people travel to this Notre Dame cathedral to walk this pattern, however, chairs usually cover it. This design is longer to traverse than the Cretan, and therefore the journey to the center oftentimes will be deeper and more introspective. This design comes in plain compressed wood in a 12" size (weighing about 1 lb.) and a finished maple in an 18" size (weighing about 4 lbs.). Has a notch for hanging and engraved suggestions for use on the back 12"x 12" Ely Cathedral Finger Labyrinth This unusual labyrinth pattern is found inlaid into the tile floor of Ely Cathedral located just outside of London, England. Ely is a more modern labyrinth constructed by Sir Gilbert Scott in 1870 during his restoration of the cathedral. As a finger labyrinth, the paths are more angular and winding than the Cretan or Chartres, and longer to the center (like the Chartres) in only a 12-inch space. Has a notch for hanging and engraved suggestions for use on the back.
